George Porter, Jr. got his start as the bassist of the legendary funk act the Meters, along with Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli and Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste. Porter still plays with the Meters at the occasional reunion show, not to mention the band’s new incarnation the Funky Meters. He also leads his own band, the Runnin’ Pardners, who have become respected as not just a quintessential New Orleans band but an ambassador of funk throughout the national festival scene.
Many seasoned New Orleans musicians join Porter in the Pardners, including Brint Anderson and Michael Lemmler, as well as Khris Royal and Terrence Houston. Masterfully fusing rock, funk and R&B, George Porter Jr. and the Runnin’ Pardners put on a live show that wows audiences young and old alike.
