Jazz chanteuse Meschiya Lake has called New Orleans home for nearly 15 years, starting off with the Loose Marbles before founding the Little Big Horns. Her pre-microphone croon is backed up by an ensemble cast of horn and rhythm players. The band combines trad-jazz standards with a fierce energy to create a vintage swinging sound that’s as danceable as it is charming. You can catch Meschiya Lake & the Little Big Horns at Frenchmen Street clubs like Yuki, Three Muses and the Spotted Cat, and even internationally — she just polished off a tour in Russia, and more is on the way for 2013. When she’s not on stage with the Little Bigs, Meschiya herself often sings with pianist Tom McDermott and other bands around town. If you’re in town for one of her gigs, you’d best put on your dancing shoes and prepare to swing the night away with the help of Meschiya’s unmistakable vocals and classic sound.
